If you’ve been here a bit, you know Mondays are for the unpredictable moods. One minute I’m ready to take on the week, the next I’m convinced I should move to a remote cabin and never speak to another human again.
Why it happens (for people like me)
- My emotions don’t do “mild.” Even small feelings show up like they’re Tate McRae on stage with a mic and a spotlight.
- Trigger stacking is real. One tiny thing happens and suddenly my brain’s scrolling through an entire highlight reel of past awkwardness, heartbreak, and random high school drama.
- Little shifts = big impact. A tone in a text, an offhand comment, or even a weird smell can change the vibe instantly.
What it feels like
I can start the day feeling hopeful, crash into a random wave of sadness before breakfast, get irrationally annoyed mid-morning, and then somehow be buzzing with excitement by noon.
It’s not “fake,” and I’m not “too sensitive”, my emotional dashboard just refreshes… a lot.
How I handle it (most days)
- Name the mood. Saying “I’m feeling anxious” instead of “I am anxious” helps me separate myself from it.
- Ride the wave. Good or bad, every mood eventually shifts.
- Move my body. Even just grabbing a drink of water or stepping outside can break the loop.
💡 Reminder: Mood swings don’t make you weak — they just mean you’ve got a finely tuned emotional radar.
